COOKING

He had looked forward to this special day,
for he had finally found a way
to show his appreciation to his wife,
who shined brightly as the light of his life,
in a manner he had never done before
which would make her delighted for sure.

Now of course he always provided,
financially and lovingly, but he confided
to himself that there was something missing,
throughout all their love, happiness and kissing -
he had never cooked her a wonderful meal;
he'd only prepared her the odd bowl of cereal.

It's not that he had purposely avoided cooking;
lack of confidence and skills stopped him from looking
at those things called recipes, they were a stranger to him
until he decided to stop being so kitchen-dim.
So with a little help from his friends,
he was now ready to make tasty amends.

After some secret cooking tutoring here and there,
where he learned even not to drop hair,
he was ready to cook something that would make him a winner:
a scrumptious, heavenly roast beef dinner.
He approached the planned cooking like a perfectionist,
as if all his life had been leading up to this.

The front door opened as he sipped on some wine;
everything was ready, and he felt oh so fine.
She came in, nostrils flaring at the appetizing smell
of his divine flavourful feast, everything was going swell.
Surprised and delighted, she confessed she was starving,
he brought the food over and she said 'thank you my darling'.

He playfully fed her a piece of his finely cut beef,
awkwardly clashing it against her teeth.
The chunk then fell in her throat making her furiously choke;
red-faced, a look of horror is all she could evoke.
He desperately thumped her back as she twitched her arms
and her face began to turn blue, ringing all the alarms.
He gave her abdominal thrusts, still hungry like a shark,
her eyes rolled backwards, everything was going dark.

The chunk of beef finally came out to fly,
through the kitchen's open window and up to the sky,
She was alive, breathing but unconscious,
he laid her down, hoping there would be no fuss.
He tried the still warm roast after calling the ambulance,
to his great happiness, it was a delicious brilliance.
